CHGA and MHGA members and friends are cordially invited to the Annual CHGA Christmas party at John and JoAnn Dullahan's, in lieu of the December general meeting. It's pot luck style and starts at 7pm on 19 Dec. at the Dullahan's place in Fort Washington. Children are welcome. Details:

Take Indian Head Highway (Route 210, exit 2A) south from the beltway 495/95 (it's the first exit in Maryland driving east from the Wilson Bridge, and the last exit before 295 north if driving west toward Virginia from Maryland. Bear right on the first off-ramp if coming from Virginia, and, if coming south on 295 from the District, bear to the left.).

Go about five miles south. After passing Ft. Washington Rd., take a right at the next light at Swan Creek Rd (there's a small shopping center on the right).

Proceed to a traffic circle; go straight across. Continue to a stop sign at Riverview Road, where you'll make a left.

Go about 75 meters and take next left into Firth of Lorne Circle. It's the 4th house on left (white with blue shutters).

Thurs, December 4 : MHGA General Meeting And Birthday

With the cancellation of the High Rock Parties Fred's planned 50th Birthday party was also put off. With Danny's blessings we're going to try, once again, to get Fred. This time we'll do indoors!

So, at the Thursday, December 4th MHGA meeting we'll flame a cake (compliments of Kate) and attempt to embarrass him with old fart spoof gifts. If you know Fred and want to participate, make it inexpensive -- and take off the gloves!

Thanks, Raean

Sat, November 23 : FINAL Pulpit Ramp Work Party

The final work party to complete the new ramp at the Pulpit starts at 10:00am this Saturday and we need your help. We've had five work parties to date and have reached the point where we need to have a lot of people on hand for a one day final push. We've all had a great time working on the ramp so plan on having fun. Also you don't need to be a carpenter or even know how to hammer a nail to be helpful. We just need people....20 would be good 30 would be better.

We'll be working several crews this weekend. One will be setting joists and laying decking, one will be building steps, one will be carrying wood from the set-up area to the ramp, one will be marking and cutting boards, another will be sorting and reconditioning lumber from the old ramp, and still another will continue work on widening the slot.

If you have any of these items, bring 'em along: Hammer, Tape Measure, Portable electric generator, Bow Saw, Ax, Chainsaw, Prybar, Gloves, Safety glasses/goggles, Lunch, Something to drink, Anything that can be used to cut trees, Rain Gear, Spare Boots and Socks.

Unless you hear otherwise, you can assume that the work party will be Saturday, but if the weather is really bad we might delay until Sunday. You can call:

GEORGE PRICE 703-876-9665 or
DAVE PROCTOR 301-725-1560 or
MARK CAVANAUGH 301-718-1896

to verify that things are a "go", or check this events calendar Saturday morning, or check the CHGA listserv.

Wed, November 19 : CHGA General Meeting

The November CHGA meeting will be held a week early this month, due to the Thanksgiving holiday. Usual place: Lasick's in College Park, at 8:00pm.

Sat, November 8 : High Rock Party : CANCELLED

Unfortunately, this year's High Rock party/camp/fly-in has been cancelled due to persistently bad weekend weather. Blame it on El Nino!

UNOFFICIALLY: Sunday afternoon might be flyable and pleasant at High Rock. If so, come fly the Rock, stick around, and we will have an informal presentation of Emma Jane's USHGA Special Commendation plaque.

Call the MHGA answering machine at 410-357-5618 for the latest info.

Sun, November 9 : Pulpit Work Party

Work party #4 for the new Pulpit ramp is expected to be held on Sunday, provided that the weather cooperates. We're still trying to get the last two piers and their crossbeam up due to last Saturday's rain. Again, this is a limited work party, you will have heard from George if you are needed.

Sat, November 1 : Pulpit Work Party

Work party #3 for the new Pulpit ramp is scheduled for 10:00am Saturday morning. The objective will be to set the remaining two legs, the last beam and remove the rest of the old ramp and install the diagonal bracing. Only a limited work party is needed for these tasks; you will already have heard from George if you are expected to help out.

Sat, October 25 : High Rock Work Party

A work party will be held at 11:00am in the High Rock LZ, in order to lay a drainage pipe under the LZ access road. This should finally take care of the road's erosion problem. Don't forget to bring a shovel! Contact Fred Permenter for more information.

Sat, October 25 : Pulpit Work Party

Work party #2 for the new Pulpit ramp is scheduled for 8:00am Saturday morning. Arrive early at Kelvin&Susan's place in order to transport some 2x12's up to the Pulpit. Tasks for the day include the removal of the old ramp and setting the legs for the new ramp. Only a limited work party is needed this time; you will already have heard from George if you are expected to help out.

Wed, October 22 : Phil Bachman, USHGA

USHGA Executive Director Phil Bachman is scheduled to speak at 7:00pm, prior to the start of the October CHGA general meeting. If you would like to know more about the operations of USHGA, the waiver program, site acquisition/preservation, etc., then please come early. Members of other nearby clubs are welcome to attend!
