Pilot Personalities

A pretty interesting discussion on the personality traits of pilots... Yes there are trends, and differences with the rest of the population.
By a practicing consulting psychologist.Interesting read.
Pracical Use of the Pilot Personality Profile
by Robert G. Rose, Ph.D.
http://www.avweb.com/ articles/personality/

Quotes from the article:
"pilots are the most consistent and even-keeled group anyone is likely to meet"
"Pilots generally have good social skills and good reasoning"
"others can see you, at times, as chimerical"
"Firm but polite" describes the typical pilot.
"Pilots are positive but they remain so by questioning everything that could go wrong. They are diligent but they do not like rushing, especially to meet artificial deadlines. They are interested in what's going on but like to have a quick overview of the big picture at the outset and they like their information to be concise."

CHGA April Meeting Minutes

28 April, 2001
  • Small turnout. Watched the video "Flamenco Dune." Kneescraping dune soaring by paragliders in Chile.
  • Massanutten Peak is reopened and a new ramp built. It is very important to go with a site familiar who knows where and when to land.
  • Mr. Rudisel at Dickey's is not well and would appreciate your cards.
  • New Face: Hugh Makelrag (not quite sure about the spelling), H2 from Lookout.

Flying stories
  • Steve Kinsley OTB'd from Dickeys. It's near a Vortak so watch your clock. Monday at Ridgely was bumpy.
  • Ric Niehaus went 55 miles and landed near Wilmington.
  • Sunday Marc F bought an Aeros Target. He tried out his new Paraglider at Dickeys, got tossed around and came down. Tried again at 7pm in "mellower" conditions, got yanked up and thoroughly wrapped around a tree. He pointed to a number of factors: new paraglider, new harness and underestimating conditions even that late. Took till 11:30 to de-tree while Steve K. awaited pickup at a brewery somewhere XC. He didn't mind.

Club stuff
  • Numbers: There are 120 people on the newsletter list, 40 or so on final mailing, membership is down to 60
  • Kirchners Knob seems to be open again, ask around.
  • The High Rock civil lawsuit is over with under a favorable ruling. The county lawsuit is still pending but with the same result expected.
  • The High Rock Fly in will be mid May with the Pulpit fly in in mid Sept.
  • We tossed around the idea of buying the tertiary at Fisher Rd.
  • Pattern tows at Ridgely: 3 for the price of one to 500 ft so you can practice your landings.
  • There will be an observers meeting before next month's meeting.
