There will be no general meeting of the CHGPA this December. Instead, we'll be celebrating the holidays at our annual CHGPA Christmas Party! This year's hosts are John and Joanne Dullahan:

Directions:

Take Indian Head Highway (Route 210, exit 3A) south from the beltway 495/95

It's the first exit in Maryland if you are heading east from the Wilson Bridge, and the last exit before 295-North if heading west toward Virginia from Maryland. Bear right on the first off-ramp if coming from Virginia, and, if coming south on 295 from the District, bear to the left.

Go about 5.5 miles south, and six traffic lights. After passing Ft. Washington Rd., take a right at the next light at Swan Creek Rd (there's a small shopping center on the right).

Proceed to a traffic circle; go straight across. Continue to a stop sign at Riverview Road, where you'll make a left.

Go about 75 meters and take the next left into Firth of Lorne Circle. The Dullahans are at the 4th house on left (white with blue shutters).

Our October meeting will feature a talk by Brian Vant-Hull regarding the dynamics of cliff launches. Brian says that "We will take what everyone knows intuitively to construct a basic theory that will allow pilots to visualize the forces on the wing in a way that is actually useful." Phew!! Surely a talk not to be missed, so be there!

Oops, sorry, we announced that there would be a CHGPA club meeting on Sept 22, but that date was incorrect. The next meeting is actually Oct 27, apologies for the confusion!

The CHGPA and MHGA will be holding their annual Fly-In and Just-For-Fun XC Competition the third weekend of October. Details and the latest info can be found at the Festival website

You'll save about $17 if you register in advance, and you'll receive 10 tickets for the raffle (on-site registration only gets ya three!). We're going to have a ton of great prizes, a cook-out and party on Saturday night, trophies and medals for the winners of the XC comp, and fireworks too!

Our Festival benefits the Rescue Squad of McConnellsburg PA, so your participation will also help out a very worthy cause. Please consider buying a few extra raffle tickets so that we can make a larger donation.

The MHGA is organizing the 29th Annual High Rock Fly-In again this year (contact : Brian Vant-Hull). Highlights include a barbecue, bonfire, and raffle. Visit the High Rock Fly-In Homepage for details, including how to register for the event on-line.

Our July meeting will feature a talk by Joe Gregor on how to read a sectional. We will also plan for the upcoming McConnellsburg Hang Gliding Festival (aka, the Pulpit Fly-In) in September.

Pete Schumann will be presenting a talk on emergency equipment, with a focus on how to handle an emergency tree-landing. Pete has much climbing experience and 'knows the ropes'. Plan to attend, you will definitely learn some valuable techniques!

This month's general meeting of the Maryland Hang Gliding Association (our sister-club in the Baltimore area) will be held at 7:00 at Oregon Ridge. Pizza and beer will be provided! A discussion of procedures in the event of an emergency tree-landing is planned.
