Prez SezBetter late than never, I always seem to say. So I would like to send a belated thank you to everyone who helped out with the Pulpit Fly-in. Special thanks goes to Carlos Weill and Mark Cavanaugh for organizing and handling many of the jobs necessary to make the event a success. But everyone who helped out and who attended (and there were many) deserves a thank you. If you didn't attend, then buy a t-shirt! The fly-in was a big success despite the limited flying that weekend, raising at least a couple of hundred $ for the club and the McConnellsburg rescue squad. One item that seems to be on everyone's mind is how to include more paragliders into the Capital Hang Glider Association. One suggestion was to register a new d/b/a (or "doing business as") name. The new name would be something like the Capital Hang Gliding and Paragliding Club. Or hopefully, a much catchier name than the one I just suggested. Please attend the next club meeting as several important issues will be discussed such as including paragliding in the club's activities and whether we should change the corporate structure of the Pulpit. On a more personal note, last Saturday night, Tracy and I went out to Middletown, Va (about five miles north of Strassburg) to see the meteor shower. We were out for the forecast peak time of 4:00 to 6:00 am. It was quite the show. We estimated that we saw a meteor about every two seconds which would be over 2,000 meteors for the two hours we were out. For those of you who missed it - there's always next year. One last thought: Each member of the current board of directors have served for at least a couple of years - with Mike Balk a standout with three years (not including the multiple officer positions he filled during the first year). We will definitely need volunteers to fill vacant board positions. If you may be interested, you can discuss it with us informally to see what the responsibilities for the different positions. If I can serve as President, I think anyone can qualify for the job. -Tom McGowan Editor's note: This Prez Sez column had been written before the November meeting. During the meeting it was decided to file a DBA under the name of Capital Hang Gliding and Paragliding Association.
